The Autonomous Community has allocated a €50,000 grant to the Cieza City Council to carry out the renovation of the town's Race Walking module. The Council has signed a protocol with the public company Región de Murcia Deportes to authorize the use of these facilities for the Murcia Region High Performance Center. The Director General of Sports, Francisco Javier Sánchez, the town's mayor, Tomás Rubio, and international coach, José Antonio Carrillo, visited the facilities today.
The Cieza Race Walking Center, owned by the Cieza City Council, is the only one of its kind in the Region of Murcia and Spain. It is considered a key and strategic sports facility for the development of high-level race walking in the region. However, it has several deficiencies in the building's various technical facilities that need to be repaired to provide an optimal and appropriate service to high-level athletes.
Consequently, the Cieza City Council has drafted the repair project, the purpose of which is to define the necessary actions and address the necessary repairs, including the installation of air conditioning, the diesel boiler system, and the necessary plumbing and masonry work.
This investment reflects the regional government's commitment to promoting sports and strengthening its infrastructure. The Cieza Race Walking Training Center will strengthen the work of a sport that has historically garnered eight medals for Spain at the Olympic Games.
