The Cieza Basketball School's activity continues unabated, not even during the summer holidays. With the season over, and with the excellent performance of each and every one of its teams, the leading basketball club in our town is already looking ahead to next season, in which it aims to continue educating individuals through the world of basketball; a mantra that, despite being repeated ad nauseam, remains the club's main objective, far above sporting results, proving that when work is done well, the latter will come on their own.
Last Saturday, June 18th, the first CIEZA CITY CLINIC was held at the Juan José Angosto Pavilion, the CiezaEB headquarters, in coordination with the Murcia Basketball Coaches Association (AMEBA) and with the support of the Cieza City Council.
A commitment by the new sporting director, Víctor García, who, as a keen connoisseur of the sport, is not in vain a Superior Basketball Coach and has extensive training in youth basketball. This commitment materialized in this training session, aimed exclusively at coaches belonging to AMEBA, and featuring two distinguished speakers: Abraham Ibáñez, president of AMEBA; and Lucas Pérez, assistant coach of UCAM.
The first of them, Abraham Ibáñez, gave a very revealing presentation on shooting, a fundamental weapon in basketball since, as he famously said, "it's about putting the ball in the hoop, the more the better." He broke down, step by step, the key components for effective teaching of this technique, from its most basic principles to the beginning of its technical development. Lucas Pérez focused his presentation on "spacing," occupying spaces, where I position myself on the court depending on where and how the ball, my teammates, and the opponent are. If the first presentation was important, the second was crucial in a team sport. It demonstrated that even without the ball I can contribute positively to the game, both in defense and offense, being, at all times, a vital part of my team's success.
The player, his or her all-around development, is the goal of CiezaEB, and that's why the training of our technical team is a daily commitment. We want to be better so we can better serve our players. The club's board would like to thank the City Council, AMEBA, and UCAM Baloncesto for their collaboration in the development of this clinic, the first of many.
