A few days ago, the Senior Citizens Volunteering project was resumed in the school garden of the La Era San Bartolomé School.
Thanks to the collaboration of volunteer Francisco Villa García, a user of the Municipal Center for the Elderly and a volunteer with the Murcian Volunteer Association AMUVIN, this project, which was started a few years ago by the La Caixa Banking Foundation and the Cieza City Council through its Senior Volunteer program, has been reactivated this April.
The main objective of this project is to help schoolchildren build practical knowledge about how to manage a vegetable garden typical of the Region of Murcia, while also fostering a connection with nature and raising awareness of the origin of agricultural products, promoting learning based on responsibility and care for the environment.
Francisco Villa will be the volunteer in charge of teaching the participating children his traditional knowledge in relation to the planting, care and harvesting of vegetables from the Cieza valley, such as eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, etc., also transmitting the tradition and values of Cieza's agricultural activity to the youngest generation of the municipality.
