A DEVICE SPECIAL ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT ON THE OCCASION OF THE “PILGRIMAGE VIRGIN OF GOOD FACTS 2023”.
In connection with the events organized by the Board of Passion Brotherhoods of Cieza around the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Good Fortune, which will take place during the next weekend, the Local Police of Cieza will carry out the “Operation Romero”, a Special Environmental Device made up of preventive actions and the presence of police officers who will ensure compliance with the environmental legislation in force in the different administrations.
The actions will begin with a social media campaign called: “For my health and for the environment, I’m WALKING to the Pilgrimage”This initiative aims to encourage participants to walk to the Collado de la Atalaya, the site of the pilgrimage, in order to avoid the use of private motor vehicles except in strictly necessary cases. This is primarily for health and environmental reasons, but also to reduce the usual traffic congestion caused by the high volume of vehicles during the two days of the celebration. Similarly, the Cieza Local Police recommend using the buses that will be running continuously to and from the Collado de la Atalaya.
Paths enabled for the ascent to the Collado de la Atalaya
In the days leading up to the pilgrimage, officers will mark and signpost the only two trails that can be used to walk from Cieza to the Collado de la Atalaya pass. These trails are known as "Zig-Zag" and "El Moro." This will help prevent the use of secondary trails and shortcuts, which officers have observed suffer significant erosion and damage to the flora during the pilgrimage, a consequence of the large number of people visiting the area.
Similarly, but this time for the safety of the participants and after an orographic review of the terrain by the Agents, the signage and marking of different points near the place of celebration of the Pilgrimage will be carried out, which have been considered "of risk" as they are steep areas or with danger of falling.
Finally, and always in a complementary way to the work carried out by the Local Police of Cieza in the area of Traffic and Citizen Security during the celebration of the Pilgrimage, this year, the patrols that carry out service in the Collado de la Atalaya, will pay special attention to the correct treatment of the waste and garbage generated by the participants in the Pilgrimage, as well as ensuring compliance with current legislation on the Environment.
The Local Police of Cieza are calling on citizens to participate in the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Good Fortune responsibly, promoting healthy practices, avoiding driving after consuming alcoholic beverages and respecting the environment, always remaining at the disposal of the people of Cieza and visitors on such a special day for our municipality.
