Cieza City Councilor for Tourism, Amparo Belmonte, highlighted the spirit that underpins this celebration, which revolves around the goal of investing in people, the planet, and prosperity.

This is the reflection for this World Tourism Day 2023, where the UN World Tourism Organization, under the theme "Green Tourism and Investment," highlights the need for more investments geared toward the sustainable development goals. "It is time to demand new and innovative solutions for a better world, not just traditional investments that promote and support economic growth and productivity."

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27th. Its purpose is to raise awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value, as well as how the sector can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

It was in September 1979 that the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization "decided to establish World Tourism Day, beginning in 1980." This date was chosen because it coincides with an important milestone in world tourism: the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on September 27, 1970.

"On this World Tourism Day 2023, we recognize the vital need for green investments to build a tourism sector that works for the benefit of people and the planet. So, let us all do more to harness the full potential of sustainable tourism. Because investing in sustainable tourism is investing in a better future for all."
