Statements by María Turpín, Councillor for Education.

The Padre Salmerón Municipal Library hosted the meeting of the Municipal Truancy Commission after four years without a meeting, according to sources from the Department of Education.

The meeting was attended by the mayor, Tomás Rubio; the councilors for Education and Social Services, María Turpín and Gertrudis Juliá, respectively, as well as members of the public order forces, specifically the Local Police, and representatives of the Cieza educational community.

The mayor has expressed his commitment to "fight against school absenteeism through the formation of a joint committee between all the parties involved: the educational community, teachers, inspectors and the Administration."

Turpín, for his part, pointed out that it is "extremely important that there be a joint effort to ensure that all young people go to their educational centers and receive an education, avoiding situations that, in the long run, could irreversibly harm them."

The aim is to form a working team and, at the same time, to create a volunteer support network to help combat absenteeism as much as possible.

At the beginning of the legislature, Tomás Rubio's team set out to develop a program for absenteeism and school dropout with a classroom for work and study habits in the areas of social skills, educational reinforcement, and self-esteem.

Another objective will be to revitalize the truancy commission “with fluid relations with Social Services and the Local Police. “We will strengthen a key figure, with specific training, specialized in cooperating in the resolution of private conflicts,” the mayor emphasizes.
