The Local Governing Board approves the development of SU-11, enabling the construction of a fairground, a retail park, and an industrial estate.
The first stone will be laid in about a month after several years of delay due to bureaucratic issues.
The S-11 area will house retail spaces for food, leisure, DIY, toys, footwear, sporting goods, restaurants, event venues, fitness centers, an 80-room hotel, a gas station, over 900 parking spaces, and an amusement park. It is estimated to create between 750 and 1,000 jobs.
The Local Governing Board of the Cieza City Council cleared the way this week for the construction of a fairground, a retail park, and a new industrial park to begin in the municipality within a few months. This was announced on Tuesday by the Councilor for Urban Planning and Commerce, Francisco Martínez. The Board definitively approved the SU-11 urbanization project, unlocking the construction of an infrastructure and services area that, in the councilor's words, "will make the municipality a true city."
The imminent start of the urbanization works will begin in a few weeks.
According to Martínez, “the construction of the fairgrounds will provide Cieza with a long-awaited piece of infrastructure. The area will also be used for the construction of a retail park and the development of industrial land. Now Cieza will truly become a city; with this infrastructure, which we have included in our government program from the beginning and which, in addition to increasing services for citizens, will create jobs.”
Top-level operators
For his part, businessman Pascual García, one of the project's promoters, confirmed that "negotiations have already been underway with top-tier operators for the establishment of a retail park in the area that will serve not only the needs of Cieza, but also those of all the towns in the region and nearby villages. Approximately 30,000 square meters will be made available to these businesses. This includes shops, restaurants, an 80-room hotel to be built by a French company, and a 2,400-square-meter permanent fairground open year-round, featuring recreational elements such as bowling alleys, trampolines, and children's carousels. The retail space will be provided by a leading national operator with 3,800 square meters of retail space, along with several other companies whose names will be revealed when the foundation stone is laid in a few weeks."
Three sectors are distinguished: the fairgrounds, the commercial park area which occupies an area of 65,000 meters with about 30,000 for sales room with more than 900 indoor and outdoor parking spaces, and a third area for industrial park.
Hotel construction
Thirteen technicians are already working on the future complex. Next week, work will begin on clearing the land and relocating the olive trees planted there, which will be preserved in a new green area. These tasks will take approximately 15 to 20 days. It is expected that before the end of the year, construction will begin on the urbanization project, as three projects will be carried out simultaneously: the urbanization itself, the retail park, and the hotel, in addition to a service station operated by a multinational company with almost entirely local operators, and a fast-food restaurant.
The number of jobs expected in the retail park alone ranges from 750 to 1,000.
One of the essential complementary infrastructure projects that the City Council will undertake to prevent water runoff and flooding in the area will be a rainwater retention basin, Francisco Martínez concluded.
