The Councilor for Local Police and Citizen Security, Jesús Castaño, announces that the call for the selection process was published yesterday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
Jesús Castaño, VOX Cieza's Local Police and Citizen Security Councilor, has always expressed his intention to end the lack of security and increase the number of Local Police officers in our municipality. Cieza has one of the lowest ratios (number of officers per 1,000 inhabitants) in the Region of Murcia.

The current staff consists of 44 officers, despite having a population of over 35,000 inhabitants, which represents a ratio of less than 1.25, when it should have 1.8 officers per 1,000 inhabitants, according to the European Union. Furthermore, crime is skyrocketing in our Region, doubling the national average, and in Cieza it increased by 16.21 percent in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period the previous year, with a total of 760 criminal offenses, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior's Crime Report.

New places

VOX has always maintained that "security must be a priority for the new municipal government, increasing the number of police officers to make Cieza a safer place to live." And, as promised, the councilor assures that this is a priority and that measures are already being taken to improve the service provided by our officers and, consequently, the safety of all Cieza residents.

This is part of the agreement reached by the new Cieza government team: to increase the current police force to the number of officers corresponding to the municipality's population, thereby ensuring greater security. The 2024 budget also includes the provision of the positions of commissioner and civil protection technician.

Finally, the First Deputy Mayor thanks the Cieza Local Police for their work and essential role in ensuring the safety and public order of our town.
