Cieza natives Daniel J. Rodríguez and María de los Llanos Carrillo are launching their first book at the helm of Adel Editores. The imprint, which launches its first work this February, was founded to give voice to stories centered on narrative style and family themes. This is "a long-cherished dream" for the couple, who have lived in Segovia for over five years.
New joint project by two writers
The project, according to Rodríguez, a cultural journalist, is "a natural step that had to come sooner or later." Accustomed to working with books and having co-directed projects such as the magazine La Galla Ciencia, "the idea of building a work through publishing" had always been on his mind.
That's why, along with his partner, he's been shaping this imprint for over two years. Now, Carrillo explains, "everything is becoming real with the publishing house's first book, which is already reaching readers."
This is 0. Elisa / Sofía, a "hard-to-classify" story written by fjromero (Alicante, 1971), an unpublished author who, in the editors' opinion, has crafted a story "perfect for the spirit of the project." 0. Elisa / Sofía is a short story, less than a hundred pages long, that focuses on the figure of Elisa, a young woman who has gained importance in the author's mind based on a series of women who have passed through her life.
Based on small, numbered, independent paragraphs, fjromero has created this diary in which Elisa, who could also be called Sofía, captures thoughts and links them together to tell us about her childhood, her contradictions, her successes and blunders... in short, the imperfect way in which she relates to a world in which she doesn't quite fit, but from which she cannot disassociate herself, explain the Ciezans.
TWO COLLECTIONS TO BE TELL
"We read constantly to share our stories, to explain ourselves, as well as to enjoy the pleasure of this art," acknowledges María de los Llanos, who defines two clear lines in her project: "On the one hand, we look for texts with an original, distinct, and striking narrative; on the other, we are interested in stories that reflect on different concepts of family."
Adel Editores, founded as a "staunch defender" of traditional publishing, will publish four books a year, distributed across its two collections. "That's provided there are stories that truly captivate us and authors who make us want to buy into them," concludes Daniel J. Rodríguez.
