The Cieza City Council continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and quality of life through the European LIFE-GreenMe5 project, which promotes the municipality's progress in the five pillars of the Green City Accord: air quality, waste management, water, biodiversity and noise pollution.

Within this framework, work has begun on creating a noise map of Cieza, a key tool that will allow for a precise understanding of the town's acoustic situation. To this end, sensors are being installed and measurements are being taken at various points throughout the town center to obtain a detailed diagnosis that will serve as the basis for the future Acoustic Action Plan. This plan aims to identify the most affected areas and implement measures to improve the health and well-being of the population.

Thanks to this European project, two continuous measurement devices will also be installed to record acoustic quality—one of them will also measure air quality. These devices will be integrated into the municipal network managed by the Smart City Office, allowing for real-time data and a rapid response to potential environmental incidents.

The recent expansion of the Air Quality Monitoring Network in the Region of Murcia, announced by the Directorate General for the Natural Environment, strengthens coordination between government bodies and improves environmental management at both the regional and local levels. Alongside these initiatives, the municipality is also undertaking the renaturalization of the schoolyard at the Santo Cristo del Consuelo School, another project funded by the LIFE-GreenMe5 initiative, which focuses on enhancing urban biodiversity. These types of projects, in addition to beautifying public spaces, promote contact with nature and offer recognized benefits for children's health, concentration, and well-being.

The City Council emphasizes that European projects are a true catalyst for transformation, enabling local governments to innovate, collaborate, and implement sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. Thanks to these projects, Cieza is moving towards becoming a healthier, greener city, more connected to nature, where improved air quality and reduced noise translate directly into a higher quality of life for all citizens.
