In a press release, Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Urban Planning of the Cieza City Council, has denied that there is "administrative slowness" and consequently "blockage" in the urbanization of the so-called 'crocodile block', as stated this week by CCCi Councilor José Luis Vergara, who, as on other occasions, should have gone to the Urban Planning Department where he would have been accurately informed of the situation, which in turn would have avoided the CCCi councilor having to "speak from hearsay" and thus would have fulfilled the mission that, according to him, several neighbors have entrusted to him.
Francisco Saorín clarified that the development of this plot, which is part of PERI-3 of the 1985 General Urban Development Plan (PGOU), is not new, as it dates back to 1999. Its current status as a plot of land, following the demolition of most of the homes on it, is pending a court ruling, and construction cannot be carried out there until this issue between its owners and tenants is resolved. "Therefore, there is no 'administrative slowness' or 'blockage' on the part of the City Council to 'resolve the development of this iconic block', because to date, there has never been a request for a building permit," the City Councilor emphasized, while other aspects that are not entirely the responsibility of the City Council are normalized.
Regarding the urgent need to clean and eradicate rats from the area, Saorín reported that the owners of the "crocodile block" have been asked to do so on several occasions, both in writing and verbally, following the procedures established by law. Therefore, "they will be immediately asked again to clean and maintain the area, and if the request is not met, the City Council will act directly, subsequently claiming the costs from the owners," the head of urban planning stated.
The Councilor contacted one of the owners responsible for the aforementioned plot of land, assuring him that rodent bait has been placed according to a map created by a technician, and he has promised to proceed with the immediate cleanup of all plant debris in the area.
However, regarding the possible presence of insects and rodents mentioned by the CCCi councilor, Saorín clarified that he has reported the matter to the Department of Health, which is responsible for the matter, so that, if true, they can take immediate action, as this is a supposed public health problem. The aforementioned lot is fenced and contains plant debris, and there is no inert garbage or scrap metal or other waste.
Finally, Saorín thanks Councilor Vergara for his concern regarding the situation in the "crocodile block," although he reiterates that he should have been previously informed, through urban planning experts, about its condition and the procedures carried out; all of this, before issuing opinions that could contribute to "social alarm" and "confusion" among the residents of Cieza.
