The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure reports on the progress of the first phase of construction on the iconic Gran Vía Juan Carlos I, which includes the section between Camino de la Estación and Camino de la Fuente. The contract was awarded for 62,000 euros.
Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Public Works, explained that "Gran Vía Juan Carlos I, in the section between Camino de La Estación and Camino de La Fuente, had a sidewalk made of slabs that were quite deteriorated, which was causing problems for pedestrian traffic."
"Therefore, the works underway consist of demolishing the existing paving stones and replacing the sidewalk, as well as adapting the area to the conditions established by current accessibility regulations. In addition, tree pits will be built for planting urban trees."
"We know that, despite being a very emblematic area in our municipality, most sections of Gran Vía have only seen minor maintenance work for many years, making it necessary, in our opinion, to completely replace the pavement in several sections."
"Therefore, we will proceed in phases, approaching different areas of action. Prior to street repairs in the remaining phases, we intend to conduct a feasibility study of creating parking spaces along this avenue, which would pave the way for a complete redesign of the area," Saorín concluded.
