The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, together with the Military Emergency Unit, will exercise their capabilities starting tomorrow, Monday, April 23, in a Combined Joint Drill-Exercise Region of Murcia 2018, which will consist of two major earthquakes in Murcia and Cartagena, with consequences in nearby municipalities: flooding, chemical, environmental or transport risk of dangerous goods.
The drill will begin Monday, April 23 At 7:57 a.m., the first earthquake will register a magnitude of 6.5, lasting 36 seconds and reaching a depth of 11 kilometers. The epicenter will be located in Murcia-Alcantarilla.
Tuesday, April 24thAt 8:23 a.m., a second earthquake will occur in the Cartagena-Escombreras area, measuring 5.7 magnitude, with a depth of 16 kilometers and lasting 28 seconds.
The CECOPI (Emergency Coordination Center) will be established on Monday at the 1-1-2 Region of Murcia Emergency Coordination Center. The earthquakes will cause damage in various municipalities in the Region of Murcia: Fortuna, Santomera, Molina de Segura, Archena, Las Torres de Cotillas, Mula, Blanca, Alcantarilla, Alhama de Murcia, Totana, La Unión, Murcia, and Cartagena.
Forward Command Post 1 (FCP1) will be managed by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia following the first earthquake. Subsequently, following the second earthquake, a second Forward Command Post 2 (FCP2) will be established and managed by the Military Emergency Unit.
The planned activities will take place at locations including a farm in La Ñora (Murcia), a school in Alcantarilla, a farm in Molina de Segura, a campsite, a reservoir and quarry in Santomera, the Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena, and the Ojós reservoir. The significant deployment of both material and human resources will require the collaboration of all citizens.
