This week, Cieza City Council hosted a meeting with the neighborhood associations affected by pig farms, the Councilor for Environment and Agriculture, Antonio Moya, and Pascual Lucas, Mayor of Cieza. The meeting addressed the group's main demands and highlighted the actions the City Council would take.

The first step the mayor will take, according to municipal sources, will be to speak with the developer of this project to inform him of "the problems and discontent raised by the affected residents, as well as the government team, due to the potential impact of such facilities. However, guidelines will be given regarding the possibility of relocating the farm to another location where there is greater social consensus."

The mayor's office has expressed its support for the platform, clarifying that "the governing team cannot violate the law when granting licenses, but has committed to relocating these farms to areas where they will not cause agricultural and/or neighborhood conflicts, provided environmental conditions are met and they comply with the law."

After the meeting, the government team, through Mayor Pascual Lucas, expressed its commitment to studying the possibility of amending the General Urban Development Plan by establishing protected zoning to prevent the establishment of farms within the established area.

The mayor emphasized the importance of advocating for the quality of life of those citizens who decide to move to rural areas, "as well as the duty to protect the environment and, consequently, the landscapes and surroundings of these areas, which are of significant value to our municipality."

“As is well known, Floración is one of the backbone projects of this government. We combine agricultural work with tourism, commerce, and hospitality. Floración is our trees, so installing them in areas adjacent to farms would also impact tourism, commerce, and hospitality. Therefore, the work carried out in this area cannot be overlooked given the popularity our municipality has achieved in these areas,” the statement concludes.
