In response to the needs of Cieza and pet care, according to the 2019 participatory budget, an expansion of the existing dog park was agreed upon and budgeted. The works have been successfully completed, creating a new space for the use and enjoyment of pets and their owners. The expansion of the dog park at Príncipe de Asturias is expected to cost €14,200, according to sources from the Department of Public Works.
The park currently offers entertainment for children of all ages, including adults, with areas marked by flowerbeds and adequate signage. It is also a popular destination for residents and their pets. Hence the need for the expansion to ensure proper coexistence between pets and other visitors. These types of facilities also facilitate the upkeep and perfect cleanliness of the remaining areas, the sources explain.
This project included the installation of benches for pet owners, play areas, and drinking fountains for animals, complementing the existing furnishings. "The City Council has expanded the existing area to a fully fenced area of 800 square meters, with double security gates and waste bins to make it easier for owners to properly manage dog waste collection."
Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Public Works and Services, explains that "this intervention responds to the City Council's fulfillment of its residents' requests. Let's remember that this project was born from participatory budgeting. Furthermore, this department maintains its commitment to animal protection and care; this intervention, coupled with the remodeling of the municipal shelter for abandoned animals, clearly reflects this." Therefore, the same councilor encourages pet owners to maintain the facilities in these spaces, as well as ensure proper cleaning and waste collection.
"It's essential for pets to get physical exercise, socialize, and enjoy spaces to run freely without endangering other people or animals. We continue working to improve the quality of life in our town," the City Council concludes.
