The 3rd and 4th grade students of CEIP San José Obrero have carried out a project called "Extraordinary Women" and culminated it last week with the creation of a commemorative mural to celebrate Women's Day.
For several weeks, our 3rd and 4th grade students have been learning about the lives, histories, and interesting facts of 10 important women (painters, scientists, nurses, singers, writers, illustrators, artists, mathematicians, astronauts, biologists, etc.) through stories. For each woman, they wrote an essay highlighting the characteristics that most interested them and also recorded group discussions about her life.
All of these projects have been bound and displayed in the school hallways, along with a final mural bearing the motto "LET'S STOP DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN AND START TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE." It has undoubtedly been a very interesting activity for our students, who have learned about the important role of women in history, appreciating their work and perseverance, and highlighting the importance of respecting all people, whether men or women, simply for being human.
