Over the next few weeks, the Cieza OJE Guide's Home will organize a series of events to mark the farewell of one of the most iconic activities the group has ever organized: the Almadenes Canyon Descent.
After thirty-one editions The OJE will conclude the longest-running sporting event held in Cieza. An adventure that began on a Saturday in June 1985 and for three decades has allowed hundreds of participants from all corners of the country to explore the depths of the Almadenes Canyon. All this despite the many obstacles that the organizers have encountered over the years due to the unique nature of the event.
ACTS TO BE PERFORMED, EXHIBITION
The events will begin this Thursday, June 8, at 8:00 p.m. at the Siyâsa Museum with the opening of the exhibition "Descent of the Almadenes Canyon, Goodbye, Old Friend."
The exhibition will be open throughout June, mornings and afternoons (except Mondays), and will feature a selection of objects and documents that are part of the event's history.
FAREWELL CEREMONY
The farewell ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 1st, at 7:00 PM at the Capitol Theater in Cieza. It will be an event filled with emotion in which the OJE will acknowledge the work of the many people and institutions that have made the Almadenes Canyon Descent possible year after year. Theater, music, awards, images, and, above all, a surprising conclusion that will leave no one indifferent.
Tickets to the event are free until capacity is reached and can be collected at the OJE Guide's Home in Cieza (C/ Hoyos No. 33) on Wednesdays, June 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
That same day, following the farewell ceremony, the inauguration of the "Almadenes Canyon Descent" monument will take place at the entrance to Arenal del Río Segura Park. The monument is being designed by Cieza-born artist Pedro Camacho.
The events will end with the Dinner/Concert which will take place on the 1st itself at the Balcón del Muro, where participants, the organization and friends of the event will enjoy a great evening that will simulate the dinners held year after year at the departure of the boats from the Almadenes Canyon.
The Cieza OJE will thus conclude an adventure forged through camaraderie, commitment, hard work, risk, and, above all, love for the Almadenes Canyon.
It will be an honor for OJE to have all those people who, in one way or another, feel part of this utopia, which taught us all that if a group of friends believes in a dream with all their might, there is nothing and no one who can stop that dream from coming true.
That was the Almadenes Canyon Descent, a dream come true that for more than thirty years united a group of friends around the adventure and that will keep them together forever.
