Municipal sources report that "Participatory Budgets are a tool that the Cieza City Council provides to the citizens of Cieza through the Department of Citizen Participation, headed by Concepción Villa Ballesteros, whose objective is to improve the situation in the municipality through citizen proposals. For all these reasons, and given the municipal government's commitment to citizen participation, the allocation allocated for investments in these Participatory Budgets has been increasing year after year."
Following an open bidding process, the project was finally awarded for €63,750, a €11,250 reduction from the initial tender price of €75,000. This amount will be reinvested in new cameras to be installed in the Ascoy industrial estate for a total of €100,000.
The installation of cameras aims to improve citizen safety and also enhance compliance with municipal ordinances. Given the specific nature of the situation, it was necessary to process a request for authorization from the Government Delegation, which was ultimately approved.
The aforementioned sources point out that "it is important to remember that, thanks to this participation tool, citizens decided how to invest €155,000 of the municipal budget in 2020. Some of the most voted projects have already been implemented, such as accessibility improvements to the building that houses municipal offices in the former courthouse, providing a ramp and elevator at the main entrance. This work is accompanied by reserved parking and an accessible door at the entrance to the building on Camino de Murcia. An accessible stage for public roads has also been acquired. Other projects included the electrical connection, courtyard division, tree planting, and the creation of shaded areas at the Ascoy animal shelter. Furthermore, architectural barriers have been removed in the San Juan Bosco neighborhood and solidarity stoppers have been installed at various points throughout the city.
"There is no doubt that the implementation of these investments, born from a citizen initiative through this participation tool, demonstrates that Participatory Budgets are a priority objective for the Department of Citizen Participation, as they are a tool for improving society that will leave a lasting impact on the municipality for all the residents of Cieza," the department concludes.
