Afemce presents 'You decide: come in, don't be left out of coverage'

The action has the financial support of the European Social Fund through the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Employment, as well as the collaboration of the Cieza City Council through the departments of Education, Youth and Social Policies.

The Mental Health Association of Cieza and Region (AFEMCE) presented this Wednesday 'You decide: come in, don't be left out of coverage', the social intervention program with minors to prevent school absenteeism in secondary schools in Cieza.

Those who spoke included the social worker responsible for the program, Adrián Pérez; Paquita Teruel, representative of AFEMCE; Cristo Manuel Lucas, Councilor for Youth; and María Turpín, head of Education.

The program's objective is to work with children and their families to prevent and reduce school absenteeism among students in compulsory secondary education centers in the municipality.

It began in September, will continue until December, and is aimed at schoolchildren aged between 12 and 16 years old.

Actions Planned by the Program

The planned actions are to inform and advise, support in the return to the educational center and mediation between families and students.

Those interested in participating can contact the social worker by phone at 617468444 or by email educacion@afemce.comThe group has invited citizens to join as volunteers to support this cause.

María Turpín praised the program and invited AFEMCE to join the Municipal Commission on Absenteeism, which, according to the councilwoman, “was convened this morning after a four-year hiatus and will now meet quarterly.” She emphasized that it is a “crucial project that has the full support of the City Council, as every effort is needed to address this problem.”

Therefore, the Councillor for Social Welfare will meet with the Regional Minister of Education in the coming days to propose that this program be made permanent and not limited to just a few months. We believe that absenteeism is a failure on everyone's part: students, families, schools, and the public administration, which has yet to effectively address this situation. We believe that this Afemce program will yield very interesting and positive results.”

For his part, Cristo Manuel Lucas pointed out that “this project can be complemented and have continuity thanks to the Youth Guarantee and European Social Fund Operational programs.”
