Last Wednesday, July 12, at about 11:00 p.m., the Local Police officer from Cieza was enjoying his summer vacation in the city of Pontevedra when, on his way to the hotel where he was staying, he observed a thin, dark-haired young woman with her head down, leaning on the railing of the Puente da Barca bridge in that city. Moments later, she climbed up and put one leg over the railing that separated the pedestrian walkway from a great fall, an act that greatly caught the attention of both the officer and his partner who was accompanying him.
Seeing that the situation he was witnessing was out of the ordinary, he decided to jump over the railing to cross the road and reach her, at which point he saw a man arrive at the scene also motivated by having witnessed the same events, later identifying himself as a national police officer.
They both managed to grab the girl's arm and pull her back inside the bridge, and then called for support from a uniformed patrol and an ambulance.
The young woman was in a highly agitated and sad state, stating that her intention was to jump into the void, and was comforted by the officer while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.
Once she arrived at the scene, she was taken to the Pontevedra hospital to check that she was alright.
Thanks to the quick action of these people, a tragic ending was avoided.
