On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 15, Mayor Pascual Lucas and Environment Councilor Antonio Moya attended a meeting with residents of "El Maripinar" and the surrounding areas. The main objective was to provide information about the situation.

During the meeting, the main actions carried out by this government team were addressed, since the Galeruca shook the elm grove, acting for the maintenance and not extinction of this grove.

The Department of the Environment implemented an action plan to ensure that the responsible administrations were informed of the situation, cutting across various administrative levels. In this way, the Regional Assembly, through the Socialist group, was encouraged to grant legal protection to this natural monument. Work has also been ongoing, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Highways and the Directorate of the Natural Environment, sending them technical reports on the work required.

Finally, all that remains is to undertake a risk assessment as soon as possible to gain a more detailed understanding of the physiological state of the trees, outlining the actions required for each tree to maintain and preserve each specimen in optimal condition.

"However, after implementing the plan and coordinating the legal protection granted by the assembly, the preparation of the biomechanical study, and the fumigation and manual interventions carried out by the responsible general directorates, we are close to restoring the condition of our elm grove and returning the lives of the surrounding residents to normal," says the environment councilor.

Finally, the mayor expressed the support of the governing team and urged them to continue maintaining communication channels regarding the work being carried out and any unforeseen interference that may arise in the future. "I have characterized myself as an approachable person, and I will not mind continuing to meet with the residents as often as necessary," the mayor concluded.
