The Cieza Governing Board, in its regular session this Monday, July 4, approved the initial development project for API-6 (Casa de la Encomienda). It will now be necessary to obtain reports from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the CARM (Carm), prior to final approval, which could take place in September or October.
The approved project took into account all areas of the building with special heritage and cultural interest. The development work has a budget of €510,000 and will aim to provide all the necessary services for a hotel with a parking area.
It should be remembered that the Casa de la Encomienda is a historic building composed of centuries-old constructions, and that in recent years the City Council has been acquiring new sections of it, holding the 100% of the property located in the API-6 planning area.
Also in recent years, in coordination with the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the CARM, specifically, with the Historical Heritage Service, archaeological research work has been carried out, and there is a report from this general directorate on the measures to be taken regarding its integration into the hotel execution project, for example, with the part of the wall found or the vestige of the original floor burned on those fateful dates of April 1477. It is therefore an important project, the final construction of a hotel-museum in a historic place, respecting everything found and everything that the building still holds.
Finally, the municipal government adds that "this project will also serve to revitalize the old town, since the presence of a hotel in that area could also encourage the opening of new shops or businesses in the old town."
