The sporting event, now in its 31st edition, is organized by the Blanca Canoeing Club in collaboration with the Directorate General of Sports and the town councils of Blanca, Abarán, and Cieza. It will be held on July 28.

Yesterday, Blanca City Council presented the 31st National Segura River Descent at an event attended by the Mayor of Blanca, Á. Pablo Cano; the Director General of Sports, Francisco Javier Sánchez; the Councilor for Sports of Blanca, Francisco José Merenciano; the Mayor of Abarán, Jesús Gómez; the Mayor of Cieza, Tomás Rubio; the President of the Blanca Canoeing Club, Jesús Ramos; and the President of the Canoeing Federation of the Region of Murcia, César Reales.

The test was presented this weekend in Blanca

The sporting event, which hasn't been held since 2019, will be held on July 28 and will feature more than 350 paddlers from 25 clubs from all over Spain.

The event, organized by the Blanca Canoeing Club in collaboration with the Directorate General of Sports and the town councils of Blanca, Abarán, and Cieza, will start in the "Sella" style at 12:00 p.m., from the iron bridge in Cieza, and will finish in Blanca, in front of the Canoeing Club at around 1:00 p.m., with participants covering a distance of 15 kilometers.

In this regard, Jesús Ramos, president of the Blanca Canoeing Club, emphasized: "Celebrating the Segura River Descent again means recovering a tradition that we residents of Blanca grew up with, while also reviving river racing, a sport that now only exists in Galicia and Asturias, in addition to our region, and which has disappeared from the rest of Spain."

The route, which features the typical accidents of these sporting events, has geographical peculiarities that have positioned it as one of the most distinctive competitive river descents, a benchmark for environmental protection in the area and its tourism promotion.

Furthermore, this competition has been declared of special interest by the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation and is part of the Autonomous League of the Region of Murcia.
