Cieza wins the 2022 Good Practices Award from the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate

The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has announced the decision of the Qualifying Committee of the IX edition of the Local Good Practices for Climate Award in the category of Nature-Based Solutions, whose first prize went to the municipality of Cieza for its project, “Biophilic Science - From the Placebo Tree to the Medicine Tree”.

The award, which includes a certificate, will be presented to the mayor of the city during the ceremony held during the General Assembly of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate, which will be held in Malaga on September 23 at the headquarters of the Provincial Council.

Municipal sources recall that in June of this year, the Cieza City Council received a special mention from the Jury at the First Edition of the 2022 Tree Award of the Madrid Cities Forum for this same project, "which endorses the good work initiated in the change of model in the management of green infrastructures in the municipality, implemented in recent years by the Department of Circular Economy and the joint venture Aguas de Cieza."

"The complexity of this type of project lies primarily in the fact that its results will be appreciated by citizens in the medium and long term, which is especially important in a context where society seeks immediate solutions and results. However, the merit lies in harnessing the power of nature to provide the maximum environmental and health benefits it can provide to the city at minimal cost," these sources conclude.
