Cieza will once again host a New Year's Concert in 2026, an emblematic event that hasn't been held in the city since 2017. The organizers are the same ones who spearheaded that first edition, then through the Cieza Youth Orchestra (JOCI), and who now, nine years later, are reviving this tradition with a new approach: the Cieza Philharmonic Orchestra, a professional ensemble born from the natural evolution of the project. All of this is made possible thanks to the combined efforts of the Cieza Philharmonic and the support of the Cieza City Council, through its Department of Culture.
The concert will take place on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 12:00 noon, at the Capitol Theatre, and will be conducted by Francisco J. Ríos-López, leading the Cieza Philharmonic Orchestra.
With this project, Cieza Filarmónica is committed to reviving a historic event on the cultural calendar, once again placing symphonic music at the heart of the New Year celebrations and bringing this traditional format closer to all audiences.
The program, conceived in two parts, combines the festive and accessible character of the New Year's Concert with a journey through some of the most renowned works of the European symphonic repertoire. The first part, entitled "Dance on Stage!", includes works by Massenet, Brahms, Sibelius, and Bizet, linked to movement and choreographic expression. The second part, "Viennese Air, Strauss Spirit…", delves into the world of the waltz and polka, with a selection of pieces by the Strauss family and closing with "The Blue Danube," one of the great icons of this type of concert.
As an added artistic element, the concert will feature the participation of the María Lucas Professional Dance Studio, which will take part in several of the works, enriching the proposal with the union of music and dance on stage.
This New Year's Concert is made possible thanks to the collaboration of various local sponsoring companies and the institutional support of the Cieza City Council, whose support is key to the recovery and consolidation of large-scale cultural initiatives.
The Cieza Philharmonic Orchestra invites all citizens to participate in the return of the New Year's Concert, conceived as a cultural celebration, a meeting point and a demonstration of the commitment to the musical life of the city.
