Municipal sources report that, following the recent weather forecast and the announcement of expected temperature drops for the coming days of February, the Cieza City Council's Department of the Environment is activating the agricultural burning prevention protocol.
A protocol and information campaign have been created and disseminated to explain the path to continuing daily routines. These are carried out with the goal of avoiding any discomfort and/or harm to the health of adults and children.
Furthermore, coordination between the Departments of Health and Education and the Department of Environment has been established to activate this protocol. The Department of Education has shared information on the protocols with the school management teams at all schools, who are required to disseminate it to their users. The Department of Health has repeated the same process with the health centers and the hospital.
Consequently, to avoid situations that could negatively affect citizens, a protocol has been established to prevent potentially harmful circumstances in the air. In general, the Department of the Environment recommends, "After dark, do not open windows until 9 a.m. or when conditions have improved, avoid outdoor physical activity if weather conditions are not optimal, and if you have respiratory discomfort, cover your mouth and nose with a wet handkerchief."
They add the recommendations that, "even if periods of low temperatures occur, it is recommended to follow these steps if the air conditions are not favorable. Under normal circumstances, ignore these recommendations and continue with your daily activities."
The aforementioned sources emphasize that "the City Council is working within its jurisdiction. These jurisdictions apply to fires within the urban perimeter. The Autonomous Community Government is urged to fulfill its obligations and, within its jurisdiction, address fires in fields and outside the city."
