The 1-1-2 Emergency Coordination Center in the Murcia Region received several calls starting at 2:35 p.m. reporting a forest fire in a scrubland area of the Sierra de la Cabeza del Asno mountain range in the municipality of Cieza.
Smoke and flames are reported. The fire has affected 1,000 square meters of grassland.
From the La Atalaya sentry box in Cieza, they report a fire on the La Campana estate, at the foot of the mountain range, to the right of the road that runs from Venta del Olivo to Calasparra (RM-714).
They report the existence of several sources, esparto grass is burning.
There is little wind intensity, blowing from the west towards Calasparra.
Flames are reported to be up to a meter high and have a front of 50 to 100 meters.
The following units are mobilized to the scene of the fire:
- Helicopter from the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Emergencies, environmental agent, and helitransport brigade based in La Pila
- Helicopter from the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Emergencies, environmental agent, and helitransport brigade based in Alcantarilla.
- Environmental agents and forestry brigades from Cieza and Calasparra.
- Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR) Cieza.
- Chief Environmental Agent of the Region.
- Fire investigation brigade.
- Firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium based at Cieza Fire Station (5 firefighters and two heavy rural fire engines).
The Civil Guard is aware of the fire.
4:52 p.m. The fire department has declared the fire under control.
It has affected 3.4 hectares of esparto grass.
Firefighters return to base.
Extinguishing work continues on the remaining units.
