Sources from the Cieza Tourism Department report that the project to repair the access road to the Serreta cave, included through the Participatory Budgets, has already been carried out.
The work carried out on the existing road in the La Serreta area, which gives access to the Cave next to the Almadenes Canyon, a place listed as a BIC (Property of Cultural Interest), and which is part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Arch, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, has basically consisted of conditioning its surface to improve the transit of vehicles, enabling parking areas and delimiting a safety zone at the direct access point to the cave.
The road surface was made of granular material, which had completely disappeared in some places due to the action of water flowing through the various natural watercourses that cross it along its route, rendering the road impassable in these sections. Therefore, the road surface has been prepared along its entire length by leveling and compacting it, and then spreading granular leveling material. In addition, concrete culverts have been built at the surface runoff crossings.
A "fence" (with posts and cable) has also been delimited, establishing a much-needed safety zone at the access point to the Serreta Cave-Sinkhole.
