On June 6th at 8:00 PM, the Padre Salmerón Library will launch the book entitled "Murcia in the Moroccan Wars 1859-1927." This latest book by historian Ricardo Montes Bernárdez is part of the events held by the Fray Pasqual Salmerón Center for Historical Studies to commemorate its 25th anniversary. There will also be a raffle for prizes.
The presentation will be given by Doctor of History Pascual Santos López, member of the Center for Historical Studies and coordinator, along with Ricardo Montes, of the Ojós and Ricote Valley Congress on the Expelled Moriscos. This event is organized by the Fray Pasqual Salmerón Center for Historical Studies in conjunction with the Ojós City Council. This event will be held for the third time this October.
Ricardo Montes holds a PhD in Archaeology, is the official chronicler of Las Torres de Cotillas and Albudeite, and is honorary president of the Association of Official Chroniclers of the Region of Murcia. He has published numerous articles and books on the local history of the Region of Murcia and edits the magazine Náyades, dedicated to customs and traditions of the Region of Murcia.
The book rescues from oblivion the Murcian protagonists who fought in the Moroccan wars, the history of different regiments, such as the Cartagena 70, the involvement of the Los Alcázares Airfield, publicity and Murcian photographers and journalists, major battles, landings, medals, decorations, deaths and survivors.
