The City Council is demanding that the Director General of Emergencies improve the human and material resources of the fire station.
The requests were made during a visit to the facilities of the Cieza Civil Protection Volunteer Group by the new Director General of Citizen Security and Emergencies, Fulgencio Perona, who was received by the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Concepción Villa, accompanied by the Chief of the Local Police, Mª José Hernández, and members of the Civil Protection volunteer corps.
Specifically, and in Villa's words, "we express our concern about the lack of personnel at the Cieza fire station, which serves a dozen municipalities and has been staffed by only two firefighters at different times, which puts the safety of both the public and the firefighters themselves at risk."
The municipal official also reiterated the request for a new ladder truck, which the Cieza City Council has repeatedly called for, "a need that has also been demanded for some time, due to the lack of maneuverability of the existing truck in the fleet in areas of difficult accessibility with buildings over nine stories high that exist in our city."
During the visit, Villa reiterated his gratitude to the city's Civil Protection Group volunteers for "the indispensable work they perform, which has been clearly recognized by the public throughout the pandemic," as well as the need for the Directorate General to increase the number of training and refresher courses for these volunteers.
