"The municipal government has reiterated its support for this infrastructure and is working to guarantee water resources in our region, while also always seeking consensus and unity among all groups in defense of our agriculture and our city," said sources from the local government.
The agenda for the ordinary June session of the Cieza City Council Plenary included three motions in defense of the transfer, presented by the PSOE, PP, and VOX. Prior to the start of the debate, the PSOE had already incorporated the content of the PP's motion into its proposal, "so it was obviously easy to reach an agreement between these two parties, with Ciudadanos and the non-affiliated councilors also joining in. Logically, the PP's motion was not debated, as its content had already been approved in the previous motion, but VOX's was, as its councilor refused to withdraw it. That motion proposed something somewhat extravagant, as is usual with VOX, which sought to have the Plenary condemn certain 'words' by the mayor of Toledo. From the Government, we understand that we can express our disagreement or opposition to certain 'words,' even condemn them, but we do not see it appropriate to misuse the institutions to make pronouncements on 'words or declarations' whether we like them or not, since these are matters that do not arise from any legal or administrative act and only contribute to the misuse of the institutions. If every time someone said something we didn't like, we needed a plenary session, we'd spend all day debating. Fortunately, the other councilors also understood this, since VOX's proposal was only supported by their own councilor.
For Antonio Ignacio Martínez-Real, "it was something without substance and merely seeking to stir up controversy; we believe that the important thing is the actual work, as we have been doing, presenting written arguments in defense of the transfer, something that, incidentally, the opposition failed to do."
On another note, the Plenary expressed its discontent with the "dismantling of public services that this Region is suffering in all areas dependent on the regional government, which is why it unanimously supported a proposal by the PSOE regarding free textbooks, which the turncoat minister, formerly of VOX, has eliminated, preventing everyone from accessing public education and revealing the true face of the far right that governs us in this Region."
Also unanimously approved was a joint motion by the PSOE and Ciudadanos parties calling for more personnel for the Fire Station and improved resources, "since the regional government has repeatedly failed to meet its commitments."
Finally, Antonio Ignacio Martínez-Real highlighted "a new step forward for our city in terms of tourism, as we are working together with the Abarán City Council to promote the Norias area, which will represent a new opportunity for Cieza, which will receive tourists by adding a new offer and which can be combined with others we already have such as Medina Siyâsa or the Cueva del Arco. Furthermore, within the ADRI group, the 'Walking along the Vega' project is being developed, a route that runs from Cieza to Molina along the riverbank and facilitates access to the Norias area.
