The Cieza City Council's Museum Department is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the first showcase of the quarter at the Siyâsa Museum.
This is the Iberian guttus pyx painted with birds and horsemen, which is divided in its storage between the Archaeological Museum of Murcia and the Siyâsa Museum.
The two pieces are connected, and the piece held in the Archaeological Museum of Murcia is state-owned, which is why permission from the Ministry of Culture and the Regional Ministry of Culture was required for it to be displayed, alongside the piece from the Siyâsa Museum, in our municipal museum for an initial period of nine months.
The piece, found and deposited in the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, was discovered in the 1960s by University of Murcia professor Antonio Yelo Templado. The piece, found and delivered to the former Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cieza, was found by the Cieza-born master Pascual Vázquez.
The exhibition of both pieces together will begin next Wednesday at the Siyâsa Museum, and after the presentation ceremony, the pieces and their archaeological context will be discussed in the Siyâsa Museum's auditorium by the directors of the excavations at the site: Luis de Miquel (curator and director of the Archaeological Museum of Murcia), Antonio Manuel Poveda (professor of Archaeology at the University of Alicante), María José Morcillo (archaeologist) and Joaquín Salmerón (director of the Historical Heritage Service of the Cieza City Council).
The events will take place from 7:30 p.m. at the Siyâsa Museum.
