This Friday, February 1st, and Saturday, February 2nd, all Podemos members are called to participate in the municipal primaries to form the list of candidates who will run for the municipal candidacy of Cieza in May of this year.
This weekend will mark the starting gun on the path toward institutionalization, culminating in the municipal elections in May. Amid a campaign that is expected to be intense, given the diversity of parties competing in the upcoming elections, Podemos Cieza is seeking to strengthen its candidacy this weekend.
According to Piedad Abellán Vázquez, Secretary General: "2019 is the time to consolidate the change that the citizens entrusted us with in 2015. In these four years, Podemos Cieza has been an active member of the Cieza government team, participating in all important decisions and working through our councilors on the tasks entrusted to us. Podemos remains faithful to its essence: institutions at the service of the people, ordinary people engaging in politics from the bottom up, politics as a means to improve the lives of our residents and not as a personal end."
It's been hard work, both enriching and very satisfying. It's true that the strength of the 15M movement made us believe it was possible to "storm the heavens" in one term, and these four years have brought us back down to earth. You can't change everything in four days, but Podemos has shown that you can truly change a country by working for the people and not for purely political, economic, or personal gain.
In Podemos Cieza, we still retain the spirit that led us to take the leap from our routine to fight for a better Cieza, a Cieza belonging to and for everyone. We still have the strength and enthusiasm that the people, friends, neighbors, and others instilled in us. But we also have the experience gained from these four years of work in institutions. We continue to learn, both in our own town hall and through the experiences of other colleagues in other municipalities, so we can work better and more efficiently for and for everyone.
The list of colleagues running in these primaries, hoping to garner everyone's support, is a true reflection of that spirit. Experience and youth, effort and humility, solidarity and determination. Contrary to the traditional parties, in Podemos Cieza we are committed to a feminine politics, with Pilar Martínez at the forefront of this project; a hard-working, progressive, and combative Cieza native with the experience of these four years as a councilor in our city council.
Podemos is here to stay and demonstrate that people from below can change institutions, without political or economic burdens. 2019 must be the year of consolidating true change, of removing the blinders and shaking off the complexes that those on the top want to impose on us to extinguish the hope and courage of the people on the street.
Primary voting can be done in person on Friday, February 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, February 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Podemos Cieza headquarters at 5 Calle Buitragos. Remember to bring your ID.
