The Regional Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure has guaranteed the maintenance of 317 kilometers of regional roads running through the municipalities of Cieza, Jumilla, and Yecla, thanks to the awarding of a new three-year maintenance contract. Its objective is to provide ongoing service to 28 roads, for which the appropriate personnel and machinery have been allocated, in order to ensure the good condition of the roads and their components and to guarantee the safety of drivers.

Regional Minister Patricio Valverde highlighted today that "the regional government will invest more than three million euros to ensure that these roads maintain optimal conditions for traffic."

Valverde visited the Altiplano and Cieza Road Conservation Center, an 800 square meter building, dependent on the Autonomous Community, which provides an “immediate” response to the different circumstances that may occur in the regional road network in this area.

The new contract includes routine maintenance operations such as cleaning the roadbed, ditches and drainage works, pothole repair, garden maintenance, lighting and traffic light and mechanical installations, as well as emergency actions in case of rain, snow or accidents.

Work will also be carried out to reinforce the road surface, renew the pavement, replace horizontal and vertical signage, seal cracks, and install metal guardrails and beacons, among other things.

These conservation works will be carried out on almost 150 kilometers of regional roads that run through the municipality of Jumilla, on 112 kilometers of regional roads in Yecla and on 55 kilometers in Cieza.

Carche Road

Patricio Valverde explained that, in addition to maintaining the current road conditions, the regional government “continues to promote new infrastructure in accordance with social demands, population growth, and business needs.” This includes the comprehensive improvement of the Carche road (RM-A15), which connects Jumilla with Pinoso (Alicante), and the construction of an interchange to connect it with the A-33 motorway, which links Jumilla with Murcia and Valencia.

The councilor recalled that, “following the agreement reached in May, we have already delivered the agreement to the Jumilla City Council which will allow us to finance a comprehensive project valued at more than seven million euros and we hope that together, the regional and local administrations and the business community, we will continue to move forward in the development of this project so that it becomes a reality as soon as possible.”

“This new infrastructure will increase the safety of residents and streamline traffic for the wine industry located in the area, with the aim of achieving greater economic growth in this area,” the Minister of Development emphasized.
