Municipal sources from Cieza City Council indicate that the city is experiencing a coronavirus outbreak. It is currently difficult to determine the number of affected people, relying solely on official figures from the Ministry of Health. The fluctuating results of PCR tests make it difficult to establish the number of affected people, although the possibility of a focus at the Lorenzo Guirao Hospital in La Vega has not been ruled out.

This Tuesday, the Regional government has banned, following the recommendations of the Covid-19 Monitoring Committee, nightlife inside the premises and has also established the limiting the number of people in meetings of all kinds to 15.

In a press release, it is reported that the municipal government, meeting in its entirety yesterday afternoon, has requested respect and compliance with the rules agreed by the regional government In response to the COVID-19 outbreaks, the City Council is prepared to comply with the decrees issued by the Ministry of Health, the only body empowered to issue decrees and orders related to the pandemic.

The municipal government is concerned, since, in recent days, it has been detected a significant outbreak of Covid-19 infections in the Region which, at this time, reaches more than one hundred and fifty cases and which also affects Cieza, especially when the data in relation to our municipality has been changing during the course of carrying out PCR tests.

Health Minister Manuel Villegas has stated that the current epidemiological situation "is worrying." due to the start of community transmission among a sector of the population that is already affecting other sectors.”

Regarding the situation in Cieza, the most worrying thing is that the Epidemiology Service has reported a “Outbreak originated after a positive case was detected in a patient at the Lorenzo Guirao Hospital in Cieza, which has five positive cases (in addition to the patient, and four hospital workers).”

Regarding the measures agreed by the regional government, the local government will strengthen its control measures to comply with the “a ban on indoor nightlife,” “mandatory mask-wearing,” and “control of gatherings where no more than 15 people may be allowed.”. He Municipal government will support the measures provided by regional and state health authorities, so the Local Police and municipal resources will be there to monitor and comply with the regulations issued in this regard.

Finally, the government team, after warning that events and news are changing rapidly, calls for "responsibility, not to panic, but to comply with the recommendations of health officials, because we must be clear that we can only overcome this pandemic together and with prudence and discipline."
