The Civil Guard dismantles a marijuana plantation in Cieza

Eight people have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of crimes against public health, for cultivation, production and trafficking of drugs, and for fraud of fluids

The Civil Guard has seized 233 marijuana plants, tools and equipment for indoor cultivation, and cash.

In an adjacent building, they had set up several rooms where a couple and their two minor children lived, who were kept in charge of the plants.

In the searches carried out in two industrial warehouses in an industrial park in the municipality of Cieza, the Civil Guard has seized 233 marijuana plants, tools and equipment for indoor cultivation and cash.

The investigation began in September of last year, when the Civil Guard became aware of the existence of a possible marijuana plantation, located in an industrial park in Cieza.

During the initial investigations, the agents detected the usual movement of alleged drug users near two warehouses, which did not carry out any work activity.

In addition, a strong, characteristic smell of marijuana was noticeable in the area, and the excessive energy consumption of one of the facilities raised suspicions of the more than evident existence of large quantities of cannabis plants.

Once the necessary evidence was obtained, the results of the investigation were reported to the judicial authority, which issued search warrants for the two properties under investigation.

A couple, with their two young children, lived in one of the warehouses

Inside one of the buildings, a living area was found where a couple resided with their two minor children. The couple was apparently responsible for tending the marijuana plants, located in the second building adjacent to the first, where 233 large marijuana plants, tools and equipment for cultivation and distribution, mobile phones, and cash were seized.

After months of intensive investigation, the Civil Guard has located and arrested eight people—five men and three women—all Spanish nationals, residents of Cieza, and aged between 29 and 60. They are accused of crimes against public health, specifically the cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs, as well as utility theft. Both industrial buildings had fraudulently connected to the electricity and water supply.

Drug cultivation and retail sales point dismantled

According to the evidence obtained, those now detained cultivated the cannabis plants, dried them and packaged them for sale in the vicinity of these properties, thus dismantling a point of cultivation and distribution of drugs at retail in the municipality of Cieza.

The detainees, the drugs and the seized equipment, as well as the proceedings carried out, have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Cieza (Murcia).

The investigation remains open as further arrests are not ruled out.
