Municipal sources from the Cieza City Council have confirmed that the allocation of 1,053,934 euros approved by the local government board within the European EDUSI financing strategy will be used for the regeneration of the ground floor of the Géneros de Punto Cultural Center and the Aurelio Guirao Municipal Auditorium.

Mayor Pascual Lucas points out that "this is an exciting project that will allow for the renovation of the auditorium, transforming it into a fully accessible facility. It will fulfill the demand we have received over these three years of government: that the children and young people of Cieza have a center of reference where they can enjoy themselves. At the same time, it will house a day center for senior citizens. This project joins others that we have already begun or are about to begin, and it contributes to the transformation our municipality is undergoing."

The comprehensive renovation of the building, funded by the European Union's EDUSI program, will create a children's and youth center alongside day centers for seniors. The project for the complete remodeling and reorientation of the Géneros de Punto Cultural Center will restore its prominence in the cultural sphere.

This venue, the nerve center of Cieza's cultural activity for decades, began to lose that role when the Capitol Theatre opened a few years ago and the municipal library moved to the San Joaquín convent, right in the city centre.

Thus, the building showed considerable aging in facilities that had to be adapted to the new regulations in both prevention and safety as well as accessibility, especially the Aurelio Guirao Auditorium, one of the essential dependencies of the whole complex.

Furthermore, the progressive renovations over time had generated a gradual loss of the overall functional vision; however, it did open up new possibilities for enhancing the space, adapting it to the new needs of associations, groups, administration and citizens.
