The works of the 3rd Archaeological Heritage Photography Contest arrive in Cieza

The Association of Friends of the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena Enrique Escudero de Castro, will expose from this Thursday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m., in it Siyâsa Museum of Cieza, the photos of the Third Photography Contest on the Archaeological Heritage of the Region of Murcia, which includes photographs of the Archaeological Heritage of Cieza and by photographers from Cieza.

Last November the call was made Third Edition of the “Antonio Acosta Hernández” Photography Contest in homage to the man who was its first president.

The main theme of the contest is the archaeological heritage. The Archeology It provides material goods with historical, cultural and aesthetic value that give us back the essence of the people who lived in each historical setting.

With this contest, and its subsequent exhibition, the objective is to propose a challenge to the photographer's gaze, so that it captures that essence and captures these values, at the same time, that it serves to to disseminate the fabulous regional archaeological heritage.

The first edition focused on the archaeological heritage of Cartagena and its surroundings, but from the second edition spread to the entire Region of Murcia.

The unpublished, original works, either in color or black and white, were presented until the October 22 at the headquarters of the Municipal Archaeological Museum 'Enrique Escudero de Castro'. In total, there were 42 works presented.

He November 16, in the Municipal Archaeological Museum, the awards ceremony of the photography contest with the assistance of the Heritage Councilor of the Cartagena City CouncilGeneral Coordinator of the Archaeological Historical Heritage of Cartagenamembers of the Board of Directors of MUSAEDOMUS and technicians from the Archaeological Museum itself.

He jury It was composed of professionals of recognized prestige in the areas of Archeology and Photograph. As for the prizes, there were three, the 1st one endowed with 500 euros and a trophy, a sculpture by Fernando Sáenz de Elorrieta; the 2nd, with 300 euros; and the 3rd, with 100 euros.

The winning photographs of the contest were: Compass rose from Yecla native Juan Miguel Ortuño Martínez, Argaric burial from Cartagena's Mª Nieves Ortuño Sáenz and «Personal Traits» from the Murcian Miguel Martínez Sánchez.

After the contest winners were announced and the exhibition was on display at the Cartagena Municipal Archaeological Museum, it was decided to offer it to other museums in the region. The first stop is this Thursday, January 17th, at he Siyâsa Museum of Cieza. 

The exhibition can be visited until February 10 The following hours apply: Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
