Starting Wednesday, August 1, the first heat wave of the summer will occur.

Map of high temperatures in the Murcia region.

From Wednesday, August 1st, due to stable atmospheric conditions across much of the country, along with the strong sunshine typical of this time of year and the arrival of warm air from Africa coming from the south through the western half of the peninsula, there will be an episode of high temperatures, probably the first heat wave of the summer, which will last at least until Sunday the 5th.

The episode will affect the different Communities to a greater or lesser degree and will move from one region to another depending on the days.

Although the rise in temperatures will be gradual, it will be more pronounced on Wednesday in the western half and on Thursday in the northern third.

The likely spatial and temporal evolution of the episode is as follows:

In the central and southwest areas, the episode will last longer and temperatures will most likely exceed 40ºC in much of the interior of the southwest quadrant from Wednesday onwards, and could be reached in parts of the central area from Thursday onwards.

In the interior of the north, temperatures will exceed 35ºC in large areas from Thursday onwards, potentially reaching 40ºC in the Ebro valley and in the interior of southern Galicia.

In the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, temperatures are likely to reach or exceed 35ºC from Friday and Saturday onwards, affecting areas where these temperatures are unusual, such as the Cantabrian coast.

Minimum temperatures will also be high in large areas, especially in the southern half and central zone where they will not fall below 20-25ºC.

For the time being, it is most likely that the Canary Islands will remain outside of this situation.

Although there is a high degree of uncertainty, it is possible that from Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th onwards...
a drop in temperatures will begin from the northwest of the peninsula.
