The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports has signed a collaboration agreement with the Association of Parents and Guardians of People with Mental Disabilities (Ascopas) to provide specialized assistance to students with specific educational support needs in the Region of Murcia.
The agreement regulates the collaboration between the professionals who make up the interdisciplinary technical team specializing in disabilities and special educational needs at Ascopas. The agreement "is based on a program of specialized assistance for children with specific educational support needs, both in their regular classrooms and at their schools," explained Esperanza Moreno, Director General of Diversity and Educational Quality.
Students will receive specialized assistance with prior authorization from the school and the affected families. In this regard, professionals designated by Ascopas will implement the specialized assistance program by entering the regular classroom where the students receiving the intervention are located, as well as other settings that promote incidental teaching without compromising the functions of school professionals.
These activities will complement those established in the students' individualized work plans and will be coordinated by educational guidance services. Thanks to this agreement, a total of 32 students enrolled in public and private schools in the Cieza region will be served by two professionals from the aforementioned organization.
Ascopas is a non-profit association dedicated to defending the values of people with mental disabilities and their families. Its goals are educational, cultural, welfare, and social, including promoting the personal and social development of these individuals, fostering their social and professional integration, and thus facilitating their independence.
