Three lost hikers rescued by air in the Almadenes Canyon between Cieza and Calasparra.

Firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium (CEIS) aboard the Alcantarilla-based helicopter of the Directorate General for Citizen Security and Emergencies rescued three hikers this afternoon (two men and one woman) who had gotten lost while hiking in the Almadenes Canyon, in the municipality of Calasparra, very close to Cieza.

1-1-2 received a call from one of the group members at 2:20 p.m. They said they were three people and one dog, who had set out from the Almadenes Canyon Interpretation Center in Cieza and had been hiking since 10 a.m. They said they were lost, exhausted, and with barely any water.

The local environmental officer was dispatched to the scene and, after locating them, requested an air rescue due to the steepness of the location. The order was given to dispatch a helicopter based in Alcantarilla with rescue firefighters from the CEIS.

By 4:16 p.m., the hikers had been rescued and disembarked along with their vehicles, where fortunately they did not require medical assistance.
