Last Tuesday, the Cieza City Council held the first meeting of the year of the Police Coordination Board against Gender and Domestic Violence, as the meeting had to be suspended in March due to the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The aforementioned panel included the Councilor for Women and Equality, Melba Miñano; the acting director of the Department of Social Policies, María José Aroca; the lieutenant commander of the Civil Guard post in Cieza, Gabriel Galván; the chief inspector of the Local Police, María José Hernández; the person in charge of gender violence at the Government Delegation in Murcia, María Luisa Barreda; the head of the Civil Guard's VioGen team, José Villena; and the psychologist from CAVI, Francisco Aroca.
Following the reading and approval of the minutes of the previous meeting, the situation regarding cases of women victims of gender-based violence who have a restraining order in the town was analyzed. The Civil Guard reported that there are currently 118 active cases, among which there is no case assessed as a high risk of suffering an assault by their abusers. These cases are distributed between medium, low, and no risk assessed.
The CAVI then reported on its actions during the state of emergency, having treated 26 new women victims of gender-based violence and carried out more than 500 psychological, social, and legal interventions by the CAVI team. These interventions include those carried out with new cases and those carried out prior to the aforementioned state of emergency.
The representative of the Government Delegation extended her congratulations and gratitude to all the institutions represented on the Police Coordination Board for their work against gender-based violence in the highly adverse situation faced by COVID-19.
