Suddenly, a violent storm broke out, forcing them to take refuge in his hermitage. There, the people prayed and implored the saint for protection. According to the legend, they were astonished to see Saint Bartholomew sweat five times as the storm subsided.

This unusual event was summed up with a very popular phrase among the people of Cieza: "...because of how much the saint had worked in defense of his devoted people."

From the Brotherhood of San Bartolomé, we announce that starting next Saturday, June 10th, the Hermitage of San Bartolomé will be open to the public every weekend and on holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. so that all the people of Cieza can pay homage to their patron saint and visit the Conjuring Sign located on the first floor. Along with the Conjuring Signs at the Royal Alcázar-Sanctuary of the Holy Cross in Caravaca and the Murcia Cathedral, these signs are the only three preserved examples in all of southeastern Spain.
