The Regional Government has completed the work to improve access to the Los Losares and Solana public forests in Cieza, which will facilitate the fight against forest fires by reducing access times. \u20ac11,320 has been invested in this project, coming from 15 percent of the Public Forest Improvement Fund corresponding to the municipality of Cieza.<\/p>\n
The work carried out consisted of improving the access road surface along a 1.650-kilometer stretch of road (scarifying, refining, smoothing, adding gravel, irrigation, and compacting), improving longitudinal drainage (cleaning, clearing, and opening ditches, and concreting 11 meters of ditches), and improving accessibility with the creation of a 55-square-meter parking area.<\/p>\n
The Director General of Natural Environment, Mar\u00eda Cruz Ferreira, argued that "this project is justified from the perspective of comprehensive forest management, both for conservation and for preventing forest fires, since the final magnitude of a fire depends largely on the speed with which the first firefighters arrive. This measure will allow emergency teams to respond quickly in the event of a forest fire, and will allow access to some homes and small farms located near the forest."<\/p>\n
The improvement of the road allows isolated areas to be connected to the road network, facilitating access for people who live and work nearby, encouraging the execution of works and developments that can contribute to improving living conditions and establishing the population in forested areas.<\/p>\n
The forest road network is made up of a multitude of paths characterized by their rustic construction, little or no maintenance, and, in many cases, the absence of complementary auxiliary works, such as ditches or water passages, requiring ongoing maintenance to improve accessibility.<\/p>\n
"Furthermore, this project allows for more convenient visitor access, which could represent another factor in the development of the area through appropriate recreational use of the mountain in a place of high ecological value such as the Almadenes Canyon and its surroundings," concluded Mar\u00eda Cruz Ferreira.<\/p>\n
