The Ministry of the Environment, Mar Menor, Universities, and Research has created the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (Brimur) to support the resources allocated to the Infomur Plan during the months estimated to be at greatest risk of forest fires. It is currently reinforcing the forestry brigade in Cieza, where it is located, with double the number of personnel.<\/p>\n
"The Brimur is the first brigade in the Region of Murcia designed to be the main reinforcement for any forest fire that breaks out in the community and will be made available to the firefighting department," said acting regional councilor Juan Mar\u00eda V\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n
The aforementioned brigade has its immediate scope of action and automatic dispatch, under the command of an environmental agent, in the municipality of Cieza, but can be mobilized and airlifted to any part of the regional territory or in support of other autonomous communities if necessary.<\/p>\n
The Brimur is made up of a team of 12 forest firefighters and a coordinating foreman. It has a 4x4 firefighting truck with a 4,000-liter capacity. Due to its larger membership and its capabilities in the fire area, it has a specific training and instruction plan.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of the Environment has launched this first reinforcement brigade, fulfilling the new contract for the Forestry Prevention and Natural Environment Protection service. This brigade will be staffed by Brimur for two months each year, during the highest risk months.<\/p>\n
"It represents a reinforcement and expansion of the existing resources in Cieza, such as the Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR) and the Forest Fire Brigade (Brifor), and is based in the municipality's Forest Defense Center (Cedemur)," added Juan Mar\u00eda V\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n
This week, its members are undergoing intensive training and preparation to be fully prepared to respond to the region's forest fires.<\/p>\n
Almost double the number of incidents than in 2022 and less area affected<\/strong><\/p>\n As of August 1 of this year, a total of 91 incidents have occurred, of which 80 were incipient fires and 11 were fires. This figure is significantly higher than that recorded for the same period in 2022. Last year, there were 53 incidents, of which 47 were incipient fires and six were fires. However, the affected area is smaller this year, a total of 39.96 hectares, while in 2022 it was 68.92 hectares.<\/p>\n "With nearly double the number of fires in forested areas compared to last year, the affected area has been reduced by just over 42 percent, there's only one way to understand this: the efficiency of our forestry crews has been providential.
