The analyses carried out have confirmed that this alga (<em>Binuclearia latuterbornii)\u00a0<\/em>It is not toxic and does not pose a threat to users or the infrastructure where it appears.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, CHS technicians are maintaining constant surveillance of this situation. To eliminate it, the river basin authority&#039;s staff are waiting for a drop in temperatures to allow for the natural eradication of this algal bloom detected in the Jud\u00edo reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>This alga belongs to the group known as green algae (Ulotrical: algae of the class Chlorophyceae, with a laminar or filamentous thallus), and is therefore not a cyanobacterium. It is becoming increasingly common and its populations are growing larger, as it is associated with high temperatures. The greenish hue of the water is a consequence of the current concentration of this alga.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2022, technicians from the CHS Water Commission have developed their own protocol to strengthen the monitoring and early prevention of so-called &#039;algal blooms&#039; while also implementing a specific control that expands the monitoring and sampling to be carried out in the 17 reservoirs subject to these analyses.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>HOW IT AFFECTS ECOSYSTEMS<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Algae are a group of photosynthetic organisms that occur naturally in all bodies of water. They encompass a wide variety of organisms, from single cells to multicellular organisms. Algae use sunlight to produce organic matter through photosynthesis.<\/p>\n<p>Although algae are an important part of any ecosystem, their concentration levels can affect the ecological balance. Excessive algal blooms in lakes and reservoirs disrupt the natural balance of the aquatic environment, reducing water quality.
