The initiative, which took place this Wednesday afternoon, coincided with the opening of a new section of books on this topic in the municipal library's collection, where users will have access to a carefully curated selection of titles for all ages.

"Proud of the free, brave, and generous people who are capable of building a better world." These were the words of Councilor for Culture, María Turpín, at the opening of this event, which was attended by Mayor Tomás Rubio. In her speech, Turpín thanked the Maestro Gómez Villa Music Conservatory, the Padre Salmerón Municipal Library, and the young writer Elena Pérez, who read the poem titled "Ojalá," a beautiful, strongly vindictive text she created for LGBTQ+ Pride Day.

During the event, guitarist Lourdes Tormo offered a selection of pieces. The pure pleasure of performing radiated from this Cieza-born concert artist, who studied classical guitar at the Basque Country Conservatory of Music (Musikene). The audience applauded the performance, an event whose symbolism concerns us all as a society and as a people. As every year, the City Council renews its commitment to institutional recognition and participation in commemorative events in the fight for real and effective equality for LGBTQI+ people.

Source: Cieza City Council.

Music and poetry for LGBTQ+ Pride Day.
