Both are co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Cieza City Council, as part of its strategy to find funding sources for the implementation and development of the Cieza 2030 Urban Agenda, has applied for two of the calls with the largest funding allocation in the current 2021-2027 European funding programming period. This could provide the city's main source of funding for its strategic projects over the next four years, seeking to improve its citizens' quality of life through transformative projects in the urban and environmental spheres.

The Integrated Action Plan as a way to give continuity to the different projects included in the Cieza 2030 Urban Agenda

To prepare the application for the Integrated Action Plan grant called by the Ministry of Finance, formerly EDUSI, the City Council drew on the city's strategic document, the Cieza 2030 Urban Agenda, approved by the Plenary Session and enjoyed broad citizen participation. In this case, it was reinforced through a participatory survey designed for this purpose to understand citizens' priorities and define the actions of the Integrated Action Plan called "Circular Cieza: Care, Conserve, and Build." Thanks to neighborhood collaboration, a project was designed that responds to the municipality's real needs in terms of digitalization, water resource management, heritage protection, and social inclusion. With a budget of €7,800,000, of which 60% would be co-financed by ERDF, a proposal was designed based on three projects and a total of six actions that will address the city's main challenges in the coming years.

The remodeling of the promenade, the implementation of renaturalization projects in the city's schools, streets, and squares, especially in the Old Town, the improvement in the use of water resources through the installation of the Ascoy sewer, the renovation of the last section of the Rambla del Realejo, the refurbishment of the fairgrounds as a leisure and meeting space, and the digitalization and implementation of projects aimed at working with vulnerable groups, all comprise a proposal designed to continue advancing towards a more just, inclusive, and sustainable city.

Cieza Biofílica: a greener and more climate-resilient municipality

The call launched by the Biodiversity Foundation, a subsidiary of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, aims to propose transformative actions in the area of urban renaturalization as a tool to combat the effects of climate change, which are increasingly evident in southeastern Spain.

Under the title "CIEZA BIOPHILICA: Improving the green and blue infrastructure of the municipality of Cieza to increase its climate resilience and foster citizen connection with nature," the Cieza City Council continues its commitment to a transformative city project whose main objective is to increase green cover and, above all, the benefits associated with the presence of nature within and around the city. In this case, with a total budget of €2,626,002.08, financed by 60% with ERDF funds, this ambitious plan seeks to improve the municipality's green and blue infrastructure, increase its climate resilience, and foster citizen connection with nature.

The project includes the restoration of the riparian forest in the stretch of river adjacent to the city, the consolidation of the urban green belt, the renaturalization of educational centers, and the implementation of measures for the conservation, dissemination, and communication of the importance of local biodiversity. Furthermore, the proposal has been developed in collaboration with the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE), a project partner with extensive experience in improving biodiversity in southeastern Spain and which will be responsible for implementing various initiatives.

With this application for these funds, the Cieza City Council reaffirms its commitment to the modernization and sustainability of the municipality. These initiatives will not only improve Cieza's urban and natural environment, but will also facilitate access to green infrastructure, enhance the digitalization of public services, and promote more inclusive and equitable development, increasing the municipality's financing capacity to undertake transformative actions for the city and improve the quality of life of its citizens.

The Integrated Action Plan as a way to continue the various projects included in the Cieza 2030 Urban Agenda.

[18
