{"id":14714,"date":"2025-04-09T20:23:35","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T18:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ciezaentumano.com\/?p=14714"},"modified":"2025-04-09T20:23:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T18:23:35","slug":"xxi-semana-republicana-y-de-la-memoria-historica-en-cieza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ciezaentumano.com\/en\/xxi-semana-republicana-y-de-la-memoria-historica-en-cieza\/","title":{"rendered":"21st Republican and Historical Memory Week in Cieza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For more than two decades, the cultural association Club Atalaya-Ateneo de la Villa de Cieza has been reviving its republican influence during the month of April, coinciding with the anniversary of the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic. These republican events, with which the Club Atalaya reclaims the memory of one of the most important democratic periods in the history of Spain, seeking to counteract the misdeed of erasing that memory.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, this Republican and Historical Memory Week has become an unmissable event for those Ciezans who wish to remember and pay tribute to those who, with their work, contributed to the development of the Second Republic and were later repressed by the Franco regime.<\/p>\n<p>The events scheduled for this edition will begin on Monday the 14th with the screening of the film &quot;De espaldas al sol&quot; (Back to the Sun), directed by Pablo Coca. Through the testimonies of five survivors\u2014four women and one man\u2014the film chronicles the tragedy experienced during the M\u00e1laga Desband\u00e1 and the subsequent exile to France. The screening will be followed by the traditional Republican toast.<\/p>\n<h3>Programming for the 24th at the Atalaya Club in Cieza<\/h3>\n<p>On Thursday the 24th, Fran Cort\u00e9s, researcher and collaborator with the Federation of Historical Memory Associations of the Region of Murcia, will give a presentation entitled Francoist Repression in Cieza: Background and Consequences. He will address the situation of political prisoners during the Civil War and analyze Francoist repression from a prison perspective, focusing on the Partido Prison, the Casa Aguado Rehabilitated Prison, and the Ascoy Concentration Camp. The presentation focuses on the class perspective and the prisoners&#039; activism.<\/p>\n<p>The program will continue on Saturday the 26th with a flamenco gathering led by Paco Severo on vocals and Antonio Mu\u00f1oz on guitar. Paco Severo, a flamenco singer born into a family from La Uni\u00f3n with a great passion for flamenco, and more specifically, for singing, has received numerous awards and recognitions for singing (Cante de la Minas, Torrevieja, etc.) and national saeta competitions (Albacete, Torrevieja, Cartagena, La Uni\u00f3n, etc.). In 2022, the International Festival of Cante de La Minas awarded him the Carburo de Oro for his work and career in the world of flamenco.<\/p>\n<h3>Program for April 30th<\/h3>\n<p>And finally, on Wednesday the 30th, the presentation &quot;Carmen Monserrat, a refugee nurse and victim of repression in Murcia&quot; will be given by Pilar Murcia, researcher and collaborator with the Federation of Historical Memory Associations of the Region of Murcia. Carmen Monserrat&#039;s story is part of that large group of women, professionals, and fighters from our rearguard who have gone down in history as the unremembered.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition Women of the Republic Making History will be on display at the Atalaya Club exhibition hall from Monday, April 21st to the 30th.
