Framed within the weekly programming of the Thursday film classroom at the Atalaya Club, and after
\nThe death of Pepe M\u00fajica, a figure who, without seeking it, has become a beacon of conscience
\nFor a society that lives in search of meaning, the La Linterna M\u00e1gika film club has programmed
\nFor tomorrow, Thursday 22nd, at 8:00 p.m., the screening of El Pepe, a supreme life (2018).<\/p>\n
Directed by filmmaker Emir Kusturica, the documentary portrays the intimate coherence of
\nformer president and Tupamaro guerrilla, a tribute to political dignity and internal freedom.
\nKusturica, recognized for his dreamlike style, far from mythologizing him, humanizes him even more and shows
\nthat another way of living and governing is always possible.<\/p>\n
M\u00fajica was imprisoned under the military dictatorship of Bordaberry until 1985 for participating in the
\nguerrilla of the Tupamaros National Liberation Movement. It was more than 14 years of
\nconfinement, during which he was tortured and spent most of his time in confinement
\nabsolute and solitude. His presidency in Uruguay from 2010 to 2015 was just a stage in the
\nlife of a man who never ceased to be, at heart, a philosopher.<\/p>\n
El Pepe, a supreme life, is a meditation on freedom, austerity as a form of
\nresistance, and the strange peace that comes from living without duplicity.<\/p>\n
